Queen Margrethe, 83, Europe's longest serving monarch will step down on 14 January 2024, the 52nd anniversary of her accession, and leave the throne to her son Crown Prince Frederik. Queen Margrethe, who will continue to hold the title Her Majesty, became queen on 14 January 1972 after the death of her father, King Frederik IX. Copengahen, Denmark - 29.09.22: QUEEN MARGRETHE II OF DENMARK STRIPS GRANDCHILDREN TITLES Queen Margrethe, 82, Europe's longest serving monarch has stripped Prince and Princess as well as 'His/Her Highness' titles from Prince Nikolai, 23, Prince Felix, 20, Prince Henrik, 13, and Princess Athena, 10, the children of her youngest son Prince Joachim. Speaking at the National Museum in Copenhagen last night she said it will be 'good for them in the future', in her first appearance since the dramatic decision. She hopes the move will allow the siblings to 'shape their own lives without being limited by the special considerations and duties' that a formal affiliation with the Danish Royal Family involves. The siblings, from Prince Joachim's two marriages (Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix with Hong-Kong born Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg and Prince Henrik and Princess Athena with French-born Princess Marie) who are currently seventh through tenth in the line to the throne, will maintain their places in the order of succession. They will be known as either His Excellency Count of Monpezat or Her Excellency Countess of Monpezat from January 1, 2023. Til sommer afslutter grev Nikolai sit studie på Copenhagen Business School. Nu løfter han sløret for, hvad han håber, at fremtiden bringer.
Grev Nikolai blev født ind i Kongehuset, da han kom til verden den 28. august 1999. Hans farmor er dronning Margrethe, men selvom han er en del af Kongehuset, så har det altid ligget i kortene, at han skulle skabe sit eget liv og karriere.
Lige nu læser han på Copenhagen Business School, hvor han læser sales management. Ved siden af studiet har han arbejdet som model de seneste år og gået catwalk for flere store modehuse og været på flere forsider.
Han bliver færdig med studiet til sommer, men hvad fremtiden byder på har han endnu ikke offentliggjort. Men overfolk australske GQ Hype sætter han nu ord på, hvad han håber, at fremtiden kommer til at bringe.
Udover at arbejde som model har grev Nikolai også været et smut på udveksling, mens han har læst. Her var han i Australien sammen med kæresten Benedikte Thoustrup, og det er i forbindelse med en ny forside på australske GQ Hype, at han sætter ord på fremtiden.
– At studere i fem år har givet mig en masse fleksibilitet – jeg kan sagtens tage en uge ud (af mine studier) og rejse – så øverst på min liste ville være at finde noget, der også giver en vis fleksibilitet, siger grev Nikolai til GQ Hype.

Overfor mediet tilføjer han, at det ville være skønt at kunne kombinere sin uddannelse fra Copenhagen Business School med modeverdenen, som han har været en del af de sidste par år.
I interviewet kommer han også ind på, hvordan han tror, at alle danskere synes, at der er noget fascinerende over Australien – og det er ikke kun fordi, at dronning Mary er fra landet “Down under”, nærmere betegnet Hobart på Tasmanien.
